Motonori Inagaki: phase @ Gallery Nomart (~Mar.13)
Nomart, one of the great contemporary art galleries in Osaka, present in the art scene, active, and not just that, but really making sure that they deliver the very best of art to the public. The Gallery itself, just constructed last year, is a wonderful space. And Motonori Inagaki! Wonderful photography. Superb Tableau. Active since 2000, with a serious list of solo and group exhibitions. 一石二鳥だ (kill two birds with one stone)!

"design inspirations from Kyoto" as it pops up in the header. I met Bianca at a Gallery Opening at the Third Gallery Aya late Jan, and we traded b/cards. She's tracking whats happening in Kyoto very well, much better than I am with what's happening in Osaka. If you're not sure what to do when you're there, check it out!

"News, reviews and features covering Japanese contemporary art", and being Serious about the art they cover, they've got a number of great Galleries in Osaka listed. I reccomend you have a look!

Australian Craft Beer •

I had a great Christmas back in Darwin at the end of 2009. While I was there, I wasted no time checking out the surprising range of Craft Brew in Australia, and sampling as many as I could. I also snapped a few photos of the great meals I had them with!

Beez Neez. With a hint of honey, not bad, but not a favorite.

Matilda Bay Redback Beer. Named after the famous Australian Redback Spider. Nice and wheaty.

Christmas Lunch; smoked ham and turkey.

Boxing day lunch; leftovers!

James Squire Pilsner. A great pilsner.

Boag's St. George; smooth and easy to drink.

Christmas eve dinner.

Blue Tongue (an Australian lizard with a blue tongue). Great name, not so great beer.

James Squire Amber Ale. Nice.

Fat Yak Pale Ale was my beer of the holiday. This pale ale is GREAT.

Little Creatures Pale Ale, also not bad!

Matikane Dining, Senri Chuo •

On Australia Day (26th of Jan everyone!) i wasn't planning to do much more than go home and have oden, maybe a beer and sit back and chill. The week before I was saved from that terrible fate by Toshi Ota san from Matikane Dining, who mentioned they were having an event and asked if id like to come.

Right up in senri chuo, a short walk north of the station is the very fine establishment of Matikane. Ota san, one of the only pro-Australia Japanese people i know (he even sports various australian pins on his lapel), has chosen a good selection of aussie wines to match the great food they dish up. Oh my god, the food is GREAT. I heard a rumor that the head chef was stolen from one of the leading hotels in osaka. You can find him (Man San) out behind the counter, speaking Osaka Ben, asking straight questions and demanding straight answers.

The Quartet "Dolce" attended the event, a little rattled at performing (they were all so young!), but blasting out startlingly beautiful pieces nevertheless. They also played an original Waltzing Matilda. Toshi went around handing out copies of the lyrics he translated into Japanese himself for customers.

They're available for parties, contact Kanoko Narukawa on kano.09052574274@docomo.ne.jp if you ever need a string quartet.

You know, I like the place. It's got charm, it's family oriented, and the staff are full of smiles and look at you when they talk to you. Course meals start from 3,500, great place to take dates and get bonus points for choosing somewhere with nice food.

Did I mention how good the food was?

We met Katrin when she joined us for our Art Tour last year for Art Osaka 2009. She had been living in Tokyo for a very long time and had just come to Osaka, and discovered FLAG. With this exhibition at the White Chamber, it's a great chance to go and check out CCO and Katrin's works at the same time.

Flier arrived just in time for February. 81 LAB—Representing some of the better photography magazines in Osaka is putting this show on; 5 photographers present their monotone photos. Yuuji Nakagawa, Hiroshi Yamauchi, Miki Jyou, Ryuuhei Yokoyama and Yuuko Tada.
